Anrok
Calculates, files, and remits sales tax for SaaS. Connects Stripe, QuickBooks Online, or Xero. Not a ledger.
Best for
US SaaS and digital shops that bill on Stripe, Chargebee, QuickBooks Online, or Xero and want nexus, calculation, filing, and remittance in one per-market fee.
Not ideal if
Anyone who needs Anrok to be the books, who invoices on QuickBooks Desktop, who only needs Stripe Tax calculations in one or two states, or who wants TaxJar-style ecommerce Autofile at a published monthly software price.
Standout
One per-market fee that includes calculation, US registration, filing, and remittance, with a native Stripe call before the invoice finalizes and a write-back onto QuickBooks Online or Xero.
About Anrok
Anrok is sales tax and VAT compliance, not a ledger. You connect Stripe, Chargebee, QuickBooks Online, or Xero. Anrok watches nexus, registers you, calculates tax on the invoice or checkout, then files and remits. Tax writes back onto the QuickBooks Online or Xero invoice through that product's API. You still close the books in that file. Anrok is not in the payment flow; states want the tax on invoice date, not when the customer pays.
It does not replace QuickBooks Online or Xero. Stripe Tax can calculate on Stripe charges and, on Tax Complete, file through TaxJar and partners. TaxJar is the ecommerce Autofile pick. Avalara covers a wider ERP and Desktop stack. Anrok's job is SaaS and digital: connect billing, collect the right tax, and file from one platform instead of a calculation tool plus a separate returns vendor.
People who stick are usually SaaS or digital shops that already bill on Stripe or Chargebee and do not want to register and file each new state themselves. They map products once, keep exemption certificates in Anrok, and treat month-end as a review of exposure and remittance, not a spreadsheet of nexus thresholds.
What people who used it say
What they tend to like
Full cycle for SaaS, not calculate-only
r/SaaS threads contrast Anrok (monitor, register, calculate, file, remit) with Stripe Tax as a calculation tool that still leaves filing to you or TaxJar.
Cheaper than cobbling a global stack once you scale
An older r/SaaS comment said Anrok is expensive at the start but you will not find a cheaper SaaS global tax solution once volume grows.
Priced under Avalara for some Shopify shops
A 2026 r/SalesTax thread on cheap filing software called Anrok cheap next to Avalara after Anrok added a Shopify app.
What they hesitate about
Pricing used to be opaque and percentage-based
Jan 2025 r/SaaS could not find a live price and cited 2024 Wayback Starter $499/month plus 40 bps. That model is gone. Official 2026 pricing is per market.
The bill grows with every new market
Official FAQ: each activated market adds another monthly fee. A shop that reads $100 as a flat plan will undershoot a three- or five-state bill.
QuickBooks Online setup can block tax
Help: invoices need a customer address, taxable lines, issue and due dates, and the Anrok zero tax rate. Automatic Sales Tax is US QuickBooks Online only. Miss a checkbox and Anrok never sees the invoice.

Tax is already on the invoice. You still close in QuickBooks Online, Xero, or the billing tool. Match Anrok remittance withdrawals to sales tax payable. Custom adds a reconciliation tool. Returns need a review pass before they file.
Share the Anrok dashboard (exposure, returns, certificates) plus the QuickBooks Online or Xero file. Anrok files sales tax and VAT. It does not e-file 1099s or the income-tax return.

Features
Watch nexus, then register
Anrok tracks economic nexus against each US state's rules and flags a remote hire that creates physical nexus when you connect HR. Cross a threshold and registration is the next step in Anrok. Help also covers Voluntary Disclosure Agreements for historic exposure.
Put tax on the invoice or checkout
Stripe calls Anrok before an invoice, subscription, or Checkout session finalizes. On QuickBooks Online or Xero, you save the invoice; Anrok calculates and writes the tax back through the API. Map each product ID to a tax category. QuickBooks Online lines need the Anrok zero tax rate and the taxable checkbox.
File and remit
Anrok prepares US returns and remits from a bank account you link in Anrok. Product copy: Anrok files in the US; local partners handle other markets. This is sales tax and VAT, not income tax and not 1099s.
Map products, then backfill history
Connect the billing system, assign a product type and tax category to each item, then import past transactions so the exposure map is complete. Skip the backfill and nexus can look lighter than it is.
Collect and store exemption certificates
Request or upload a certificate. Anrok validates it, tracks expiration, and can reprocess past invoices to refund tax already charged once you approve. Enhanced certificate tools sit on Custom.
Physical nexus from HR
Connect HR so a new employee location can trigger an alert. Help names an HRIS connector and Sequoia One. FAQ also names Workday. That is nexus monitoring, not a payroll run.
Pricing
A SaaS shop in one registered state pays $100 a month on Starter. Three states is $300. Five states is $500. Ecommerce Starter is $50 per market. Official example: California, New York, Texas, and the UK is four markets. Custom is a volume quote, often once you are at 10+ markets or need multi-entity. High-volume Starter sellers can owe extra third-party fees named in the contract. There is no published per-filing add-on. The live BookkeepDIY $100/mo line is the per-market rate, not a flat shop fee.
Starter (SaaS and other)
Founders and early SaaS or digital teams that want calculation, filing, and remittance in one fee. Each registered US state is one market.
- Anrok Atlas
- Global exposure monitoring
- Real-time tax calculation
- Filing and remittance
- Exemption certificate management
- Physical nexus tracking
- High-volume sellers may owe extra third-party fees, disclosed in the contract
Starter (eCommerce)
Store brands that want the same compliance loop at the ecommerce rate. Shopify calculation requires Shopify Tax; Anrok recalculates and verifies.
- Anrok Atlas
- Registration in each activated market
- Rates on each transaction (Shopify Tax required for Shopify calc)
- Filing and remittance
- Certificate collection and storage
- Exposure alerts
- Same high-volume fee caveat as SaaS Starter

Platforms
Audience
Pick something else instead of Anrok
Stripe
Pick Stripe Tax instead if you already collect on Stripe and only need calculation (Tax Basic 0.5% or 50¢) or a bundled register-and-file contract (Tax Complete from $90/month on a 1-year term). Anrok is the fuller SaaS compliance layer next to Stripe, not the processor.
TaxJar
Pick TaxJar instead if you are an ecommerce seller who wants Autofile and nexus reporting at a published monthly software price, not a per-market SaaS compliance platform.
Avalara
Pick Avalara instead if you need QuickBooks Desktop, a wide ERP catalog, or tax types beyond SaaS sales tax and VAT. Avalara is contact-sales and heavier than Anrok's Starter.
