Our take
- Best for
- US shops that want a Windows (or hosted-desktop) ledger with departmental reports, Plaid bank import, and a person on a US support line, and that will take a sales quote.
- Not ideal if
- Anyone who needs a self-serve browser ledger with a published price, a CPA who will only open QuickBooks Online, or a Mac-native / phone-first daily bookkeeper.
- Standout
- The same locally installed Windows ledger can run hosted, and Version 20 added Plaid bank import with match-or-add rules plus Aatrix 1099 e-file.
About CenterPoint Accounting
CenterPoint Accounting is the ledger from Red Wing Software. You install it on Windows, or you subscribe to Red Wing Cloud Services and open the same Windows program in a browser or remote desktop. Enter vendor bills, customer invoices, and payments, or pull bank and card lines through Plaid (Version 20), map them to a company and account, and post. Those posts are the books. Income statements, balance sheets, cash flows, and budgets come out of CenterPoint. 1099s print or e-file through Aatrix.
It replaces QuickBooks Online and Xero. It does not sit on those files. You can import master data (accounts, names, classes as profit centers, beginning balances) from a QuickBooks company file. Patriot Software and Wave are browser US ledgers with published prices. Kick is a newer cash-basis replacement. Inventory, sales orders, purchase orders, payroll, and depreciation are separate modules or SKUs. CenterPoint Accounting for Agriculture and CenterPoint Fund Accounting are different products from the same vendor.
People who stick are usually US shops that want departmental reports, unlimited history, and a human on a US phone line instead of a self-serve checkout. Bookkeepers on public forums say it runs like QuickBooks Desktop and that support is the reason they stay. Farm operators often belong on the Agriculture SKU, not this commercial file.
Pricing
No public list on redwingsoftware.com. A 5-person / ~500-txn shop should expect a license quote, a Customer Care membership (Silver or Gold), and, if they do not want a local SQL install, a separate Cloud Services monthly fee that scales with users. Inventory, sales orders, purchase orders, payroll, and depreciation are extra quotes. Card collection needs a Fiserv merchant account. The one-hour demo is free. Do not publish a dollar figure.
CenterPoint Accounting
The commercial ledger license. GL, AP, and AR are in the core. Quote only. One-hour scheduled demo.

Import or enter activity, work the Plaid pending list, make deposits, reconcile the statement, then lock the period. Attachments can sit on the rec. Accrual and cash-value balance sheets are both in the product.
Export reports to Excel, PDF, or CSV, or give the accountant a cloud or local login. 1099s go out through Aatrix. There is no live QuickBooks Online or Xero file to hand off.
What people who used it say
What they tend to like
Feels like QuickBooks Desktop, with better support
A bookkeeper on r/Bookkeeping said CenterPoint runs a lot like QuickBooks Desktop and that tech support has been consistently strong.
Farm shops stay after the old Red Wing file was retired
r/farming users say they moved from the discontinued Red Wing accounting product to CenterPoint and kept using it because it was what they already knew.
Agriculture SKU is built for crop and livestock reports
A farm thread called CenterPoint for Agriculture more tailored than QuickBooks, with reports already configured for the operation.
What they hesitate about
Harder than QuickBooks to work through
The same farm thread said it is generally regarded as a little more difficult than QuickBooks because it lacks the QuickBooks workflow GUI.
Easy to buy more than you use
A current farm user said they are pretty sure they are not leveraging everything CenterPoint offers.
You cannot just click buy
Official pricing is a contact form or 800-732-9464. Cloud is a second quote. Customer Care is a third. That is a sales cycle, not a self-serve checkout.
Features
- Post bills, invoices, and the general ledger
- CenterPoint is the file. Enter vendor invoices and payments, customer invoices and receipts, or a general journal. Posts are real-time. Drill from a summary report to the original transaction. Multiple companies can live in one database, with optional consolidated reporting.
- Import the bank with Plaid (Version 20)
- Processes > Banking > Bank Transaction Import connects most institutions through Plaid. Map each bank account to a CenterPoint company and account, then Add, Match, or Exclude. Links go inactive after 90 days without an import. This is a review list, not a set-and-forget feed.
- Reconcile the checkbook and attach the statement
- Group receipts into a bank deposit so the statement line matches. Reconcile cleared items against the bank balance. Version 20 adds scan-and-attach for the statement on the reconciliation. Positive Pay issue files are available for banks that require them.
- Invoice customers and take card pay (Fiserv)
- Design invoices in Forms Designer and send them. The Customer Payments Portal (no extra CenterPoint fee) lets a customer pay from a link you generate in the file. You still need a Fiserv merchant account. Pulled payments land back in CenterPoint for the rec.
- Prepare and e-file 1099s through Aatrix
- Run the 1099 report, then Print Tax Forms to send the grid to Aatrix. Print on plain paper, e-file federal and state, or use Aatrix complete e-file (Aatrix mails the vendor copy). Federal/State Tax Forms updates are quarterly. Back up the Aatrix history file.
- Windows install, or the same program in Red Wing Cloud
- Local install is 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, SQL Server (2019 Express ships with CenterPoint). Cloud is the same desktop program at centerpoint.redwingcloud.com or via RDP, with a separate monthly quote by user count and a 2–3 business day setup. Not a native Mac, iOS, or Android ledger. Customer Care (Silver or Gold) is how you get updates and phone support.

Audience
Pick something else instead of CenterPoint Accounting
QuickBooks Online
Pick QuickBooks Online if your CPA will only open that file, you want a native browser ledger with a published price, or you need the app marketplace. CenterPoint replaces the file; it does not sit next to it.
Patriot Software
Pick Patriot Software if you want published US prices and accounting plus payroll in the browser, without a Windows install or a hosted-desktop quote.
Wave
Pick Wave if you want a free cash-basis invoice-and-bank file and you do not need departmental ledgers, inventory modules, or Aatrix 1099 e-file.
Aplos
Pick Aplos if the job is nonprofit or church fund accounting in the browser. CenterPoint Fund Accounting is a different Red Wing SKU, not this commercial ledger.
