Our take

Best for
A US owner or bookkeeper with text PDF bank statements who wants the closing balance checked in the browser, then a CSV or .qbo to upload into QuickBooks Online.
Not ideal if
Skip it if the PDF is a scan or a phone photo, the statement is a credit card, you need QuickBooks Desktop or Xero to take the file, your bank's current layout was not in the October 2026 sample set, the feed already has the month, or the paid credits have to survive a cleared browser.
Standout
The balance check names the first row that breaks, including running-balance rows, before you download the file.

About StatementHaul

StatementHaul reads a text PDF you downloaded from online banking and turns it into a file you import yourself. You drop the PDF in the browser. pdf.js reads the text on your computer, so the statement is not uploaded. It checks opening balance plus credits minus debits against the printed closing balance. When the PDF has a running balance, it checks each row and highlights the first one that breaks. Reconciled means it ties to the cent. You then download a CSV (Date, Description, Amount, Debit, Credit, Balance, Page, dates as YYYY-MM-DD) or an OFX 1.02 .qbo file with a generic bank ID. In QuickBooks Online you upload that file from Bank transactions. You still categorize and reconcile there. QuickBooks Desktop may refuse the generic bank ID, so the CSV is the fallback. Before a CSV upload, delete Balance, Page, and either Amount or the Debit and Credit pair. QuickBooks Online wants three columns (Date, Description, Amount) or four (Date, Description, Credit, Debit).

It does not keep the books, and it does not connect to the bank. Utilly also checks a statement against its closing balance, and it writes Excel, a Xero CSV, an .IIF, and card files, but you upload the PDF. StatementCSV stays in the browser and gives a three-column CSV you can edit, with no tie-out to the closing balance. QBO Ready turns a CSV or Excel file you already have into a .qbo and does not read PDFs. DocuClipper reads scans and can push lines into QuickBooks Online or Xero. QuickBooks Online can also extract an English PDF or a photo on its own, with a side-by-side review, and Intuit says some of those statements wait for a person to check them. StatementHaul is the check you run when you want the tie-out on your own computer before a QuickBooks Online upload, and you do not need a Xero or Desktop file.

People who stick are filling a month the bank feed will not pull, when the bank only kept a PDF. Two statements convert free, with no account, and a PDF that fails to parse is not counted. The screen shows the broken row before you download. A bookkeeper with a stack of client PDFs can buy a pack once and spend it in that browser. The file stays on the machine, which is the point if you do not want the statement on someone else's server.

Pricing

The first 2 statements on a device are a full conversion, not a preview. Then $9 once buys 10 and $29 once buys 100. Stripe takes the card. Credits sit in that browser, so clearing site data removes them. Email the receipt and Haul Labs says they will restore them. Twelve statements, a year of one account, fit in the 2 free ones plus the $9 pack. Many client PDFs are the $29 pack. There is no subscription. A PDF that fails to parse is not counted. Refunds are within 14 days if it did not work on your statements. If the feed already has the month, you do not pay.

If the bank feed is connected, you do not use this at close. For a missing month, drop in the text PDF, import only if it says Reconciled, and upload the .qbo or a trimmed CSV from QuickBooks Online's Bank transactions page. You still categorize and reconcile there. Do not import a file that shows a difference.

You can send the CSV, the .qbo, and the original PDF. Nothing posts into the books for you, and there is no 1099 file or year-end package. The paid credits stay in the browser that bought them.

Features

Check the closing balance before you download
Opening balance plus the credits it read, minus the debits, has to equal the printed closing balance. If the PDF prints a running balance, every row and every page is checked too, and the first broken row is highlighted. Reconciled means it ties to the cent. The terms say this does not prove every description was read correctly, so you still look at the rows.
Read the PDF on your computer
pdf.js opens a text PDF in the browser. The file, the rows, and the account numbers are not uploaded. Password-protected PDFs have to be unlocked first. Scans and phone photos are not supported. A statement that fails to parse is not counted against the 2 free conversions on that device.
Export a CSV or a QuickBooks .qbo
The CSV columns are Date, Description, Amount, Debit, Credit, Balance, and Page, with dates as YYYY-MM-DD. The .qbo file is OFX 1.02 Web Connect with a generic bank ID. QuickBooks Online takes it under Bank transactions, Upload from file. Desktop may refuse that bank ID, in which case you trim the CSV to Date, Description, and Amount, or Date, Description, Credit, and Debit.
Spend a one-time pack in this browser
The first 2 statements on a device are free, with no account. Then $9 once adds 10 statements, or $29 once adds 100. Stripe checks out, and the credits sit in that browser's local storage. Clearing site data removes them. Haul Labs says email the receipt and they will restore the credits. There is no subscription. Refunds are within 14 days if it did not work for your statements.
Read several accounts in one PDF
One file can hold more than one account. It also accepts separate debit and credit columns, a single signed amount column, no running balance, wrapped descriptions, and US or European number formats. The October 2026 test set was 11 public sample statements plus 4 synthetic ones. It has not been tested on most real banks' current statements. Credit card layouts sometimes parse, and the check is built for bank accounts, so a card statement may not say Reconciled.
