Our take
- Best for
- US tax firms that want the organizer, the binder, the 8879, and the invoice in one place, next to UltraTax, CCH, Lacerte, Drake, or the other suites Truss names.
- Not ideal if
- A firm that needs a published subscription price, a QuickBooks Online close, or field-by-field data entry as the main feature. Truss prices the platform by quote, and QuickBooks is only described as invoices plus a trial balance.
- Standout
- A Windows right-click sends the tax software's PDF into a bookmarked binder, and the client can e-sign and pay by card or ACH on the same link.
About Truss
Truss at gettruss.io is tax workflow software for accounting firms, from the organizer through delivery. Staff send a zero-login link and a checklist built from prior-year data. Photos convert to PDF, get renamed, and can be split. One click builds a bookmarked workpaper in return order, with tick marks, stamps, and a 10-key tape in the browser. Delivery asks the client to review, e-sign, see estimates, receive K-1s, and pay. Stripe Checkout can take a card or ACH on that link, and you can hold the PDF until they pay. A Windows app sends a file in from the tax software with a right-click. The phone app, on iOS and Android, scans paper onto a project QR code.
It sits beside the tax software. It works with UltraTax CS, CCH Axcess, CCH ProSystem fx, Lacerte, Drake, ProSeries, ProConnect, ATX, and GoSystem Tax RS. It is not the ledger. QuickBooks is there for firm invoices, client payments, and a trial balance on each entity. The product says QuickBooks, not Online versus Desktop, and Xero is not included. StanfordTax is the organizer and binder, without the Windows assembly app or Stripe at delivery. Soraban documents field-level entry into the tax software. TaxDome is the practice suite if the organizer is only one piece of how the firm runs.
Firms stick when the organizer, the binder, the signature, and the invoice were four products. Optional AI prep routes a 1040, described as L-0 to L-2, to Filed, Byron, or Magnetic and returns it to the tax software for review. Truss says that prep stays in the United States, so a section 7216 offshore consent is not required for that work. GruntWorx and K1x are optional extraction paths. Someone at the firm still reviews before the return goes out.
Pricing
gettruss.io does not publish a platform subscription price. The call to action is a demo with an account executive. AI prep is different: the product shows a price before you route a 1040, and a prep upcharge can land on the client's Stripe invoice, but that rate is not printed on the website. Stripe processing is your own Stripe account. You choose whether the client sees the convenience fee. A firm that needs a number in the budget before a sales call will not get it from the public pages. Ignore the G2 and Capterra badge on the homepage. Those sites were not used.
Platform quote
No subscription price is published on gettruss.io. You book a demo. Do not copy a price from a review site.
- Organizers, workpapers, delivery, e-sign, and invoicing
- Windows desktop app and iOS and Android scanner
- Stripe card and ACH at delivery
AI prep, priced per return in the product
The site says you set parameters, see the price, and route a 1040. It does not print that price. Prep is described as domestic, so a section 7216 offshore consent is not required.
- 1040 returns, levels L-0 to L-2
- Routes to Filed, Byron, or Magnetic
- Review-ready file returns to your tax software
- A prep upcharge can be added to the client invoice

Truss does not close the month. It can pull a trial balance from a connected QuickBooks file so prep has the numbers, and it can push firm invoices and client payments back. Coding and the period lock stay in the ledger.
The handoff is the assembled return, e-sign, K-1s, and a paid or unpaid invoice. You still file in the tax software. QuickBooks, if connected, gets the firm's invoice and payment activity, one connection per entity. Online versus Desktop is not stated.
Features
- Checklist from last year's return
- AI checklists use prior-year data so the client is not asked for everything. Questionnaire answers update the checklist. Engagement letters can go out in bulk with merged fields. Clients open an expiring magic link. They do not need a portal password. Uploads of JPG, PNG, and HEIC convert to PDF, then smart rename and smart split tidy the file.
- One bookmarked workpaper
- Instant Workpaper builds a combined, bookmarked PDF in return order. Reviewers use tick marks, stamps, notes, and a 10-key tape in the browser. The audit log records who did what. Multi-layer sign-off is three stages in the same workspace. The homepage lists this review across UltraTax CS, CCH Axcess, Lacerte, Drake, ProSeries, CCH ProSystem fx, ATX, and GoSystem Tax RS.
- Sign, K-1s, and Stripe payment
- Delivery covers review, e-sign, estimated payments, K-1 distribution, and the invoice in one client experience. Return types named on the homepage include 1040, 1120-S, 1120, 1065, 1041, 990, 706, and 709. Stripe Checkout takes card or ACH. You can pass the convenience fee through or absorb it, mark a check as paid, and block the download until payment clears.
- Windows send and phone scan
- The desktop app is Windows only. Right-click Send to Truss, or print from the tax software and send the file, and assembly starts: outlines, K-1 splits, and client packets. Files open back in Excel or Adobe and save into Truss. The iOS and Android app scans paper to a project QR code and does not keep firm credentials on the phone. The web app still does review and delivery.
- Domestic 1040 prep when the week spikes
- AI Prep routes L-0 to L-2 individual returns to Filed, Byron, or Magnetic. Truss says the return comes back review-ready in your tax software, prep stays in the US, and a section 7216 offshore consent is not required. You see a price before you send the return. That price is not published on the site. GruntWorx OCR and K1x extraction are separate paths on the same page.

Pick something else instead of Truss
TaxDome
Pick TaxDome instead if you want one practice system for tasks, billing, and the portal, and you will keep assembly inside the tax software or another binder tool.
Canopy
Pick Canopy instead if the gap is practice management and client requests, not a Windows workpaper and Stripe at delivery.
DataSnipper
Pick DataSnipper instead if reviewers need Excel tied to source PDFs for audit evidence, not a tax-season delivery link.
