Our take
- Best for
- A finance team that already builds the budget in Excel or Google Sheets and wants live actuals, versions, and permissions on that model.
- Not ideal if
- An owner who only needs the reports inside QuickBooks Online or Xero, or a team that wants a published monthly price before a sales call.
- Standout
- The Excel add-on fetches actuals into the sheet you already use and writes plan numbers back, with an audit trail of who changed what.
About Cube
Cube is FP&A software for a finance team that already lives in Excel or Google Sheets. You connect a general ledger or other source system, map it into one model, and fetch actuals into a spreadsheet with the Cube add-on. You can publish plan numbers back to that model. The Excel FAQ says the add-on tracks who changed a value, when, and from which file. The ledger stays the system of record. Cube's integrations FAQ says it deploys beside the ERP and does not replace it.
Vena is the other Excel-native planning suite in this directory, also quote-only, with actuals loaded into its own database and planning done in Microsoft Excel. Jirav is a lighter three-statement plan on QuickBooks Online or Xero, with a published business price. Fathom is a management-report pack and cash forecast on those ledgers. FloQast and Numeric run the close checklist. Cube is the spreadsheet planning layer: budgets, scenarios, variance, and board reporting, with the option to work in Cube's web workspace as well as Excel or Google Sheets.
Finance teams stay when the annual plan already lives in a workbook and the pain is copying actuals, not learning a new grid. The Excel page says you can keep existing models and store formulas either in Cube or in the sheet. They stay when someone owns the mapping. A messy chart of accounts becomes a messy Cube model, and the QuickBooks and Xero setup FAQs quote two to four weeks and about two weeks, not an afternoon.

You still close and lock the period in the ERP or QuickBooks file. Cube can consolidate source actuals and run close-related workflows on that data. It does not become the books.
You can save a report out of the spreadsheet or Cube workspace for the accountant. Cube does not file returns. 1099 support was not documented on the pages opened. The year-end ledger is still the source system.
Features
- Fetch actuals into Excel or Sheets
- The Excel page describes a Cube add-on you download from the Cube portal. You pull rows and columns of current data into a blank sheet or an existing model, and you can send new plan data back. Permissions on the Cube account limit what a person can fetch or publish. Google Sheets connects to the same model.
- Keep an audit trail on spreadsheet edits
- The Excel FAQ says the add-on stores changes to Cube data: change date, team member, event type, message, values, and the submitting document. You can leave formulas in Cube so they stay consistent across models, or leave them in the spreadsheet.
- Map a ledger into the planning model
- The Xero FAQ says a standard connection imports accounts, tracking categories, and journal entries. A consolidated Xero connection limits tracking categories to the income statement. Volumes over one million records use the consolidated path. The QuickBooks FAQ says a standard connection is transactional data, and a custom connection can add operational, inventory, or headcount data.
- Plan, forecast, and explain variance
- Cube's site groups the work into consolidation and close, reporting and analysis, and planning: driver-based plans, revenue plans, cash-flow forecasts, capital spending, scenarios, headcount, and vendor spend. The pricing page says every tier includes data mapping, reconciliation, variance analysis, forecasting, dashboards, and scenario modeling.
- Quote Bronze, Silver, or Gold
- The pricing page has no dollar amounts. Bronze lists platform access, custom roles, and unlimited dimensions, users, and dashboards. Silver adds Slack or Teams, workflow automation, PowerPoint or Slides, and MCP. Gold adds premium support and all integrations and workflows. Add-ons listed for any plan: Premium Support+, additional modules, and API access. You request a quote.
