Our take
- Best for
- Accounting firms that prepare working papers, statutory accounts, and corporation tax from live client bookkeeping and want every office on the same templates.
- Not ideal if
- A US firm that needs 1040 organizers, 1099 filing, or a month-end close inside QuickBooks Online. The compliance modules we saw are statutory accounts, corporation tax, and Mercia checklists.
- Standout
- Client bookkeeping stays synced into one file, and working papers, accounts, and corporation tax are meant to start from those same numbers.
About Silverfin
Silverfin is a cloud file for accounting firms. Client bookkeeping syncs into one data hub and is mapped to a standard chart of accounts. Staff prepare working papers against that live data. Accounts production and corporation tax then use the same numbers. Silverfin says those accounts and tax computations arrive around 80% pre-filled. Review notes, sign-off, and an audit trail sit on the file. A late change can reopen the work it affects. Pulse is the client portal for reports and progress.
It does not replace the ledger. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Exact, Twinfield, Yuki, and others are the bookkeeping systems it syncs from. Two official pages disagree on regions. The technology-partners page limits Xero to the UK and Ireland and QuickBooks to the UK and the US. The feature integrations page says both are available in all regions. Neither page says QuickBooks Online versus QuickBooks Desktop. They call QuickBooks an online accounting package. Double is the US bookkeeping close tool on QuickBooks Online or Xero. FloQast is the close checklist for an in-house team. Silverfin's documented compliance output is statutory accounts and corporation tax, plus optional Mercia checklists, not a US 1040 organizer.
Firms stick when every office was building accounts from a different spreadsheet and refreshing a trial balance by export. Templates and AI mapping keep the chart of accounts consistent, and Silverfin Assistant flags issues on the file with a reason. The client still sees reports through Pulse. You file from the compliance module the firm turned on, and the source bookkeeping system remains the ledger.
Pricing
The UK pricing page shows two examples: £100 per file per year at 125 files, and £60 per file per year at 2,000 files. No per-user fee. You can start at 50 files, but that rate is not printed. The global pricing page has no US dollar price. Accounts production, corporation tax, management accounts, Mercia checklists, and Silverfin Assistant are extra per file, with no published module prices. The default term is 12 months, billed quarterly. A US firm needs a quote. Do not convert the pound examples into dollars.
UK example, 125 files
Example on the UK pricing page for a firm with fewer files. Not a named plan you can check out, and not a US dollar rate.
- Shown as Firm A, 125 client files
- No per-user fee
- Hub includes live data and working paper templates
- Default contract is 12 months, billed quarterly
UK example, 2,000 files
Example on the UK pricing page for a higher file count. The per-file rate drops as volume grows. Other volumes are quoted.
- Shown as Firm B, 2,000 client files
- No per-user fee
- You can add file volume during the 12-month term
Hub, other volumes
Both pricing pages say you can start at 50 files. They do not publish the rate for 50 files. The global pricing page has no US dollar figures.
- Minimum cited is 50 client files
- Unlimited users and support included, per the pricing pages
- Quote required for volumes other than the two UK examples
Optional modules
Add only on the files that need them. Prices for these modules were not on either pricing page.
- Accounts production
- Corporation tax
- Management accounts
- Mercia checklists
- Silverfin Assistant is named as an add-on in the pricing FAQ

Month-end coding still happens in the client's bookkeeping system. Silverfin reconciles working papers to the synced figures and can reopen work when those figures change. It is not a US close checklist inside QuickBooks Online.
The firm is the accountant. Pulse shares reports with the client. There is no documented export package for a US CPA who files a 1040 from QuickBooks. Accounts and corporation tax stay inside Silverfin modules.
Features
- Bookkeeping synced into one file
- Client bookkeeping flows into a structured data hub instead of a fresh export. Named sources include Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Exact, Twinfield, and Yuki, plus an open API. AI mapping standardizes the chart of accounts. Silverfin says that mapping is 95% or better and improves as it learns the firm's conventions.
- Working papers on current numbers
- Working paper templates reconcile the file to the synced bookkeeping. Notes and structured sign-off stay on the file, with an audit trail. If a late change breaks finished work, Silverfin reopens the pieces it affects. Standard reports named on the pricing FAQ are profit and loss, balance sheet, and key financial metrics, and they can be branded.
- Accounts and corporation tax modules
- Accounts production and corporation tax are optional modules charged per file, on top of the hub. Statutory accounts are built from the working papers, and tax computations can be filed from the same data. Mercia checklists and management accounts are also named as per-file extras. Module prices are not published.
- One method across offices
- The pitch is one chart of accounts and one set of templates so the file does not depend on which office picked it up. Silverfin Assistant runs checks and explains why an item was flagged. Insights is the portfolio view, with alerts. Talking Points turns review notes into a client conversation outline.
- Pulse for the client
- Pulse is the client portal for sharing reports and showing progress on the file. It is not a US tax organizer. Staff collaboration stays in the file: comments, sign-off, and the audit trail.

Pick something else instead of Silverfin
Double
Pick Double instead if you close US clients on QuickBooks Online or Xero and want the work on that ledger, not statutory accounts.
FloQast
Pick FloQast instead if an in-house team needs a close checklist and reconciliations on NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or Xero.
Xero
Pick Xero instead if you still need the bookkeeping ledger itself. Silverfin syncs from Xero. It does not replace it.
