Our take
- Best for
- A corporate tax department that needs indirect tax inside SAP, Oracle, or Dynamics, plus an ASC 740 or IAS 12 provision and the corporate income tax return in the same suite.
- Not ideal if
- A shop that only needs sales tax on a QuickBooks or Shopify invoice, or a CPA firm shopping for Accounting CS write-up.
- Standout
- Provision, the income tax return, and indirect-tax calculation share Thomson Reuters content, with a working trial balance from the return back to the ledger.
About Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE
ONESOURCE is the corporate tax system, not the general ledger. For indirect tax, Determination calculates sales, use, GST, VAT, and excise on the transaction in the ERP, billing, or commerce system, using Thomson Reuters rates and taxability. Named connectors on the Determination features page include SAP (ERP, S/4HANA, and Ariba), Oracle ERP Cloud, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, plus a claim of pre-built links to 60-plus financial systems. For direct tax, Tax Provision calculates the ASC 740 or IAS 12 provision and can send configured journal entries to the ERP. Income Tax prepares federal, state, local, and international returns and e-files them. The close page lists more than 2,500 forms, including Forms 1120 and 1065, and a working trial balance back to the ledger. Statutory reporting covers local GAAP filings in more than 45 countries. You still close the period in the ERP.
Avalara is the sales-tax engine with a documented QuickBooks Online and Desktop path. TaxJar files US sales tax from store and marketplace reports. Anrok writes SaaS tax back to QuickBooks Online or Xero. Vertex is the other ERP indirect-tax engine. ONESOURCE sits with that enterprise group, and it also prepares the corporate income tax return, which those sales-tax tools do not. It is not Thomson Reuters Accounting CS. Accounting CS is write-up software for a CPA firm's client books. ONESOURCE is the company's tax department stack. Both use thomsonreuters.com.
Tax departments keep it when provision, the corporate return, and indirect tax should share one content set and one trail from a ledger amount to the form. Multi-entity groups use it so federal numbers flow to state returns without rekeying. The sales process is a demo and a quote.
Pricing
No list price on the ONESOURCE overview, Determination, or provision-to-filing pages. Sales phone on the overview is 800-327-8829. Modules are licensed separately, so a quote for Determination is not a quote for income tax returns. A five-person shop filing sales tax in a few states cannot price this from the site. A Forrester study cited on a Thomson Reuters blog uses a composite company's fees. That is not a price sheet and is not used here.
Custom
Corporate tax departments and firms running compliance for them. No public price. The overview page gives sales phone 800-327-8829 and a one-business-day callback.

Tax Provision calculates ASC 740 or IAS 12 and can configure journal entries for the ERP. You still close and lock the ledger in the ERP. Income tax filing is a later compliance step, not the bank rec.
The working trial balance traces return numbers to the general ledger inside ONESOURCE. A CPA firm that does not run ONESOURCE still needs an export or the provision workbook. No public export format was documented on the pages opened.
Features
- Calculate indirect tax in the ERP
- ONESOURCE Determination calculates sales, use, GST, VAT, and excise as the transaction is entered. The features page names SAP ERP, SAP S/4HANA, SAP Ariba, Oracle ERP Cloud, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, and says there are pre-built integrations for 60-plus financial systems. Content is described as covering more than 205 countries and territories. QuickBooks was not named.
- Run the ASC 740 or IAS 12 provision
- Tax Provision calculates current and deferred tax, the effective tax rate, payables, and journal entries across entities. The close page says you can drill from a consolidated amount to entity detail and configure journal entries for the ERP, including from Excel workpapers. You still post and lock the period in the ERP.
- Prepare and e-file the income tax return
- Income Tax prepares federal, state, local, and international returns in one system. Federal data flows to the state returns. The close page lists more than 2,500 federal, state, and local forms, including 1120, 1120-S, and 1065, plus e-file with status tracking. The working trial balance traces a return number back to the general ledger inside ONESOURCE.
- File statutory reports in local GAAP
- Statutory Reporting converts group numbers into local statutory reports. The close page says templates cover more than 45 jurisdictions, in local languages, with roll-forward and a workpaper trail. This is financial-statement filing for those countries, not the US sales-tax return.
- Report 1099s, TINs, and B notices
- The ONESOURCE overview lists information reporting for 1099s, taxpayer identification numbers, B notices, and 1042s, plus ACA form work from creation through error corrections. It does not say this is included in every module. Treat it as a separate information-reporting product in the suite.
- Collect exemption certificates
- Determination's Certificate Manager stores exemption certificates, sends reminders, and lets customers upload certificates in a portal. Address validation on that page is described as USPS CASS certified. Exemption tracking does not replace the indirect-tax calculation license.
