Our take

Best for
CPA firms that want the audit, review, or compilation file, the methodology, and the partner review in one cloud engagement.
Not ideal if
A controller closing one company's books, or an owner who needs a ledger. CaseWare does not replace QuickBooks Online, Xero, or NetSuite.
Standout
Risks, procedures, evidence, and sign-off stay in one engagement file, and Sherlock shows which files are late without opening them.

About CaseWare

CaseWare is the audit engagement file. You open the job in Caseware Cloud, import the trial balance, map the accounts, and work from acceptance through planning, testing, and sign-off in that file. OnPoint Audit keeps risks and procedures linked as the scope changes. DAS Audit builds procedures from the risks you assess, using AICPA methodology. DAS PCR covers preparation, compilation, and review. DAS EBP covers employee benefit plan audits. Caseware Verity sits in the file and can draft work, such as disclosure-checklist responses, for a person to review. Sherlock rolls overdue notes, deliverables, and file status up to the practice. The client's ledger stays where it is. You import balances. You do not close their period here.

DataSnipper stays in Excel and ties a number to a PDF you already have. FloQast and Numeric run a company's month-end checklist on the ERP. CaseWare is the firm's audit workflow, not the controller's close calendar, and not a replacement for QuickBooks Online, Xero, or NetSuite. A firm can still use DataSnipper inside a workbook and keep the engagement, the review notes, and the sign-off in CaseWare.

Firms keep it when the methodology and the review have to live in one cloud file instead of a desktop binder plus email. Staff import, test, and clear notes in the same place. Managers see which files are late in Sherlock without opening each one. A reviewer still has to accept a Verity draft before it stays in the file.

Pricing

No public software price. The master agreement says fees sit on the order form. A UK Cloud Audit training e-course is listed at 360 GBP plus VAT. That is training, not the license. A shop doing its own books should not be on this quote. Demo requests go through the US sales form.

This is the firm's audit file, not the client's close. You import the trial balance and finish the engagement. The client still locks the period in their ledger.

The engagement file is the handoff: procedures, evidence, review notes, and sign-off. CaseWare does not produce a US tax return or a 1099 file.

Features

Open the engagement from the trial balance
In OnPoint Audit you migrate a desktop file or start in Caseware Cloud, import the trial balance, and map accounts. Guided prompts tailor the checklist and work program. Testing, analytics, and review stay in that live file through sign-off.
Tie risks to the procedures that answer them
OnPoint Audit keeps risks and procedures connected, and linked procedures update when the risk changes. DAS Audit, the AICPA-methodology app formerly called OnPoint DAS, generates procedures from the risks you assess so the response is not a separate checklist.
Cover compilation, review, and benefit-plan audits
The same cloud platform includes DAS PCR for preparation, compilation, and review, and DAS EBP for employee benefit plan audits. Both use AICPA methodology. You are not buying a second engagement system for those service lines.
Review Verity drafts inside the file
Caseware Verity is the AI layer in the engagement, with agent suites for prepare, plan, evaluate, and report. The disclosure checklist agent reads the financial statements and drafts checklist responses with evidence attached. A person still reviews the output.
Watch the practice from Sherlock
Sherlock loads engagement data into a firm database and shows overdue issues, review notes, and deliverables across clients. You can drill into risk assessments without opening every file. Reporting connects to Power BI or Tableau. This is the practice view, not the client's books.
Work the sheet in Verity for Excel
Caseware Verity for Excel puts procedures, trial balance data, and supporting documents in the workbook so prepare and review can stay in the sheet. It is a companion to the cloud file, not a separate ledger.
