Hurdlr
A phone-first mileage, expense, and quarterly tax tracker for US 1099s. Auto-track is paid. No QuickBooks sync.
Best for
US 1099s (drivers, agents, solo freelancers) who want one phone app for miles, mixed-card expenses, and quarterly tax estimates, then a spreadsheet for the CPA.
Not ideal if
Anyone who needs the books to stay in QuickBooks Online or Xero, a team expense program, inventory, payroll, or 1099 e-file. Also a poor fit if you expected Free GPS auto-track.
Standout
GPS mileage plus a bank/processor feed and live quarterly tax estimates in one login, at a published Premium price well under QuickBooks Solopreneur.
About Hurdlr
Hurdlr is a phone-first tracker for mileage, mixed-card expenses, and quarterly tax estimates. You link banks and cards on Premium or Pro, plus Uber, Square, Stripe, PayPal, Shopify, or FreshBooks. Lines land for you to tag as business or personal. GPS auto-track needs a paid plan; Free is start/stop or a typed trip. Attach one receipt photo per expense. As you tag, the tax engine updates federal, state, and self-employment estimates. Email a Tax Details spreadsheet (income, expenses, miles, receipt links) to your CPA. Pro adds a chart of accounts, journal entries, invoices, an accountant login, and a self-service federal plus one-state return through April.
It does not sit on QuickBooks Online or Xero. There is no live ledger sync. Wave is the free cash-basis file with invoices. FreshBooks is invoicing-first; Hurdlr can sit next to it and pull payments. Kick is a US replacement ledger for a service LLC. Everlance is mileage and expenses if you do not want quarterly estimates or a general ledger. Hurdlr's job is one login for trips, bank lines, and what you should set aside for the IRS this quarter.
People who stick are usually drivers, agents, and other solo 1099s who want the phone to catch trips and swipe-tag the feed, then hand a CPA a spreadsheet in April. They stay because Premium is a cheap year of auto-track compared with QuickBooks Solopreneur, and the weekly job is tagging, not rebuilding a mileage log.
What people who used it say
What they tend to like
Miles and the bank in one cheap login
Owners who left a mileage-only app or QuickBooks Self-Employed cite swipe-tagging, rules, and a ~$100 year versus a much higher QBSE bill.
Quarterly estimates reduce April surprise
New LLC and gig owners say the tax tab is why they keep it: they can see what to send the IRS without rebuilding a spreadsheet.
CPA handoff is a spreadsheet, not a shoebox
Long-time users print or email the year-end file and keep the CPA for deductibility questions, not data entry.
What they hesitate about
Bank feeds break and refunds are stiff
Recent Play and App Store reviews describe forced relinks, missing transactions, failed CSV uploads, and annual charges that were not refunded.
Pro work lives on a desktop
A Dec 2025 App Store review (and the official reply) says chart of accounts and journals need the web app; phone browsers are blocked.
Support starts as a bot
Older reviews praised in-app chat. Newer ones say they hit an AI bot and a wait before a person, which is a problem when the bank feed is down.

Tag every New trip and unreviewed bank line. Posted bank data often lags 3–5 business days. Free and Premium are a review list, not a statement reconcile. Pro can set beginning balances and keep a chart of accounts on the web app. Nothing writes to QuickBooks or Xero.
Email the Tax Details spreadsheet (income, IRS-style expense categories, miles, receipt links) plus P&L. Pro can invite the accountant or start a self-service April return (federal + one state). Hurdlr does not file the return for you, does not remit quarterly 1040-ES, and does not issue 1099s.

Features
Tag the bank and processor feed
On Premium or Pro, link banks and cards plus Uber, Square, Stripe, PayPal, Shopify, or FreshBooks. New posted lines typically land in 3–5 business days. You swipe-tag them as business or personal and keep rules. Free is manual income and expense entry. The first automatic pull is the last 30 days; older lines are a start-date pull, a CSV, or a typed entry. You cannot link two logins at the same bank.
Mileage: auto on paid, start/stop on Free
Premium and Pro auto-start around 10 mph (Android can use Bluetooth) and drop trips in New for a business or personal tag. Free is unlimited semi-auto (you start and stop) or a fully typed trip. Set work hours so only on-the-clock drives ask for a tag. Personal charity, medical, and moving miles can live in the same log.
Quarterly tax estimates (you pay the IRS)
After you finish tax setup, Hurdlr projects federal, state, and self-employment tax from tagged income, expenses, and miles. Log 1040-ES payments you already sent. Hurdlr does not remit quarterly tax. Detailed estimates and tax-payment tracking are Premium and Pro; Free estimates are thinner.
One receipt per expense, then a CPA spreadsheet
Photograph or upload one receipt per expense (you can swap it later). Unattached receipts wait until the bank line lands. Export mileage, expense, income, and Tax Details reports as PDF or spreadsheet, and email them to your preparer. The Tax Details file lists tagged income, IRS-style expense categories, miles, and receipt links. Untagged items stay in Pending and do not hit the totals.
Pro ledger, invoices, and April filing
Pro ($200/year) adds a chart of accounts, general ledger, assets/equity/liabilities, manual journals, home-office tracking, invoices with card collection, and Invite Accountant. Chart of accounts and journals are built for the web app (web.hurdlr.com), not the phone. US non-enterprise Pro includes a self-service federal plus one-state return through April. Hurdlr does not file the return for you. Enterprise (employer or firm-issued) Pro drops tax filing.
Several businesses in one login
Add as many Businesses as you want (Uber, a photo shop, a second LLC name) and tag each trip or line to one of them. Reports can filter by business. This is tagging, not separate legal-entity books or consolidation.
Pricing
A solo 1099 on Free pays $0 and starts/stops mileage by hand. The shop that wants auto-track and a bank feed pays $9.99/month or $100/year for Premium (Apple IAP lists annual Premium at $99.99). Pro is $200/year and is the first plan with invoices, a general ledger, an accountant seat, and April self-service filing (federal + one state). There is no monthly Pro. Hurdlr is priced per owner account, not per employee; a 5-person shop with reimbursements is the wrong product. Gold is a separate realtor bookkeeping SKU at $99.99/month (shown from $159.99), not the self-serve software price.

Pick something else instead of Hurdlr
Wave
Pick Wave instead if you want a free cash-basis ledger with unlimited invoices and, on Pro, a Plaid bank feed. Wave does not auto-track mileage.
QuickBooks Online
Stay in QuickBooks Online if your CPA will only open that file, you have inventory or payroll, or you need a ledger the tax-prep world already knows how to recover. Hurdlr does not sync to it.
Everlance
Pick Everlance instead if the job is GPS miles and expense reports and you do not want Hurdlr's quarterly tax engine or a Pro general ledger.
