Soldo

Prepaid Mastercard cards for UK and EU companies, with a daily Xero feed and a QuickBooks Online export.

Best for

Incorporated UK and EU companies that will load a prepaid Mastercard wallet, issue per-person cards, and recon a daily Xero feed (or a QuickBooks Online export).

Not ideal if

A US-only shop, or a UK sole trader. Soldo serves EU/EEA and UK incorporated entities. There is no US signup path, and the pricing FAQ says they cannot help sole traders.

Standout

A published UK three-user start plus a daily Xero bank feed after the employee snaps a receipt on the phone.

About Soldo

Soldo is a spend platform, not a ledger. You load a prepaid Mastercard wallet (GBP, EUR, or USD) from a UK or EEA company bank, issue physical or virtual cards with limits, and employees swipe. The phone app asks for a receipt. Then you send a daily bank feed plus coded lines and attachments into Xero, or connect QuickBooks Online and export. You still close and lock the period in those books.

It does not replace QuickBooks Online or Xero. Ramp is the free US charge-card program with SMS receipt chase. Pleo is the other European prepaid Mastercard, with a US Pathward card if you already have a European entity. Spendesk is the prepaid Visa wallet that also talks to US shops. Expensify is the phone camera if people still pay out of pocket. Soldo's extra is a published UK three-user start and a daily Xero bank feed, for incorporated UK and EU companies only.

People who stick are UK or EU finance teams that wanted per-person prepaid cards instead of a shared company card or petty cash. Month-end is a Xero recon on the daily feed, not a statement hunt. They accept topping up a wallet, and they are an Ltd or equivalent, not a sole trader.

What people who used it say

What they tend to like

  • Per-person cards beat petty cash

UK employees describe attaching a receipt and a note in the app while finance caps each card's balance.

  • Xero recon gets shorter

UK comparison threads call out a strong Xero sync for multi-card teams, which matches the daily bank feed in help.

  • Cards for people who are not in the UK office

A Xero App Store review cites issuing physical or virtual cards to client team members based outside the UK.

What they hesitate about

  • Receipt photos can stall the app

UK App Store reviews (2022–2023) describe crashes when attaching a receipt or a note, so the cardholder has to reopen the app.

  • Xero lines can land messy

One Xero App Store review says the payee exports as Soldo, reference and description duplicate, and users are not prompted for a receipt.

  • Prepaid, and not for everyone who asks

You load the wallet first. Sole traders are refused. Extra users and cards are billed, but the public cards do not print those unit prices.

Close is review in Soldo, then recon the Soldo wallet as a bank account in Xero or QuickBooks Online. Xero gets a daily feed plus a separate metadata export for categories, tax, tracking, and receipts. Lock the period in those books.

Invite the accountant to Xero or QuickBooks Online, or send that file after export. Receipts can attach on the Xero export. Soldo does not produce a US year-end tax package. 1099 e-file was not documented.

Features

Fund a wallet, then swipe a prepaid Mastercard

Top up from a UK or EEA company bank (open banking or a dedicated transfer). Issue physical and virtual Mastercard cards, including Apple Pay and Google Pay on Standard. Cards are prepaid, not credit. Plastic issuance is £5; virtual is £1. Domestic card spend has no per-swipe fee. FX is Mastercard rate plus 1.5%.

Snap the receipt after the swipe

A purchase shows on the iOS or Android app. The cardholder photographs the receipt and adds a note. Standard includes mobile receipt capture. Plus adds OCR matching. Out-of-pocket claims and mileage reimbursement sit on Plus.

Daily Xero bank feed, then coded export

Soldo sends a daily Xero bank feed (the left side). Categories, tax codes, tracking categories, receipts, and contacts come across on the metadata export (the right side). You still reconcile and lock the period in Xero. Help documents attachment-size limits on the Xero side.

Connect QuickBooks Online and export

From the Soldo web console you OAuth into QuickBooks, pick the company, and map a currency per wallet. Soldo imports lists from QuickBooks. Marketing and the Intuit UK app listing name QuickBooks Online. Desktop was not documented. This is for a UK or EU Soldo customer, not a US-only LLC.

Virtual, subscription, and fuel cards

Issue a temporary virtual card for up to 10 purchases over 7 days, or a card locked to a subscription or ads vendor. Fuel cards can sit on a vehicle or a driver. Company cards can be shared by a team. You set merchant, country, and channel rules before the first swipe.

Pay Someone: Faster Payments and SEPA

Standard includes up to 20 outbound bank transfers a month; Plus up to 30. Unlimited is uncapped. UK Faster Payments and EU SEPA are documented. Financial-services fees still apply (UK summary: £0.75 Faster Payments; €0.75 SEPA). Access is subject to eligibility. This is wallet payouts, not a full AP inbox.

Pricing

A 5-person US shop cannot buy this. A 5-person UK Ltd on Standard starts at £21/mo +VAT for 3 users and 3 cards. Users 4 and 5, extra cards, extra wallets, and extra transfers are billed as additional resources; the public pricing cards do not print those per-unit fees. Plastic cards cost £5 to issue; virtual cards £1. You also pre-fund the wallet. ATM cash is 1% with a £2 minimum. Card FX is 1.5%. Inbound USD loads are $10 on the UK fee summary. There is a 30-day trial on Standard and Plus and no free plan. Ramp Free is $0 for a US-only card program.
