Veryfi
Snap receipts on the phone, match them to bank lines, then send reviewed expenses to QuickBooks Online or Xero.
Best for
US owners and field teams who want machine OCR with line items and a paid push into QuickBooks Online or Xero.
Not ideal if
Anyone who needs Veryfi to be the ledger, a cheap personal-finance cabinet, or a bookkeeper-grade publish workflow like Dext. Skip the expense app if you only need an OCR API; that is a different product from $500/month.
Standout
Machine-only line-item OCR that can land in QuickBooks or Xero, with Yodlee bank matching on paid.
About Veryfi
Veryfi is a receipt inbox, not the ledger. You snap a photo in the iOS or Android app, forward a bill to your @veryfi.cc address, or upload in the web hub. Machines pull vendor, date, totals, tax, payment, and up to 10 line items. You review, tag, and on a paid plan you send the document to QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, or Xero. Paid also streams bank and card lines through Yodlee so you can match the receipt to the charge. You still close in QuickBooks or Xero.
It does not replace QuickBooks Online or Xero. Kick is the opposite: Kick is the ledger. Dext is the bookkeeper-grade capture tool that publishes coded invoices into those files. Expensify is snap-and-reimburse for a team. Neat is a cheaper yearly cabinet with a QuickBooks Online send and no Xero. ReceiptsAI stops at CSV. Veryfi also sells a separate OCR API (free 100 docs/month, paid from $500/month) used inside other apps. That API has no expense UI; the expense app has no API.
People who stick want line-item OCR that lands in QuickBooks without a human in the loop, plus a phone camera field crews will actually use. They stay for QuickBooks and Xero sync, bank matching, and a free accountant seat. Long-time owners treat it as the capture layer next to the books, not as the books.
What people who used it say
What they tend to like
OCR that fills vendor, tax, and tip from a snap
App Store reviewers say the camera extract is the reason they stayed, including handwritten tips, and that it beat other receipt apps they tried.
A searchable cabinet instead of a shoebox
Owners who left paper or old Neat hardware cite snap-and-shred plus searchable OCR text.
Support that actually ships a fix
Older App Store and Play reviews describe a same-week engineer patch after an in-app chat, including a founder reply.
What they hesitate about
Too expensive for personal or household use
Repeated App Store and Play reviews: the OCR is good, the $19.99/user business price is not worth it if you only want a receipt archive.
It is a business inbox, not personal finance
Reviewers ask for a cheaper personal SKU. Setup still wants business fields.
Camera retries on wrinkled receipts
An older App Store review says a warped slip can cycle crop shapes and force a retake. Treat as a capture-quality limit, not a 2026 SLA.

Review the inbox, match Yodlee bank and card lines, tag items qb or xero, then lock the period in QuickBooks or Xero. Veryfi can generate a placeholder for US charges under $75 when no receipt exists. You still reconcile and close in the ledger.
Invite the accountant from My Team at no extra seat cost. Paid plans export PDF reports with original images and CSV/Excel. Free is CSV only. Veryfi does not e-file the return or 1099s.

Features
Snap, email, or upload into the inbox
Photograph a receipt in the iOS or Android app, forward a bill to your @veryfi.cc address (Bill Fetch, paid), or upload in the web hub. Free is mobile-only and capped at 10 documents a month. The web hub is a paid feature.
Machine OCR with line items
Paid plans extract vendor, date, totals, tax, payment, and line items with no human in the loop. The expense app stops at 10 SKUs per document. Official feature table marks real-time OCR as paid; Free is 10 mobile scans and 6-month storage.
Send to QuickBooks or Xero (paid)
Connect QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, or Xero from Connected Apps. Tag a receipt qb or xero (or turn on auto-upload). Changes sync in a few minutes. Free has no ledger connectors. Classes and departments come over as tags.
Bank feeds and receipt matching (paid)
Link a bank or card in the hub. Feeds come from Yodlee (same provider Xero uses). First download can take up to 48 hours. Match, add a placeholder under $75, search for a missing receipt, or exclude transfers. This is not a replacement ledger.
Reports, projects, and a free accountant seat
Paid includes expense, job-costing, documents, mileage logbook, and bank-reconciliation reports (PDF with originals; CSV also on Free). Invite an accountant at no charge. Three profiles are included; extra profiles are $1 each. Timesheets are Custom only.
Separate OCR API and Lens SDK
The Data Extraction API is a different product: JSON out, no expense UI. Free is 100 documents a month. Starter starts at $500/month (6,250 receipts or 3,125 invoices). Lens is a mobile capture SDK sold to other apps. You cannot buy both jobs in one SKU.
Pricing
A one-person shop pays $19.99/month or $209.99/year for 300 documents. A 5-person shop is about $100/month (or $87.50/month billed annually) if all five are active, plus $19.99 per extra 300-scan pack if you blow the cap. The homepage $500/month Starter price is the developer API, not the expense app. Accountant seats are free. Free is 10 documents/month with no ledger sync and 6-month retention.

Platforms
Audience
Pick something else instead of Veryfi
Dext
Pick Dext instead if a bookkeeper needs coded supplier invoices and a cleaner publish into QuickBooks Online or Xero. Veryfi is a machine inbox with a tag-to-sync rule, not a firm-grade coding workflow.
Expensify
Pick Expensify instead if employees snap receipts and need reimbursements, approvals, and corporate cards. Veryfi is capture-and-sync, not a T&E suite.
Neat
Pick Neat instead if you want a cheaper yearly receipt cabinet ($200/year) and a QuickBooks Online send for a 0–5 person shop. Neat has no Xero connector on the help pages we opened.
OCR.space
Pick OCR.space instead if you only need a cheap OCR API (Free, then $30/month PRO) and you will parse fields yourself. Veryfi's API starts at $500/month once you outgrow 100 documents.
