Our take
- Best for
- A bookkeeping or accounting firm that reviews many Xero, QuickBooks, or MYOB files and wants errors surfaced before the client or the tax lodgement does.
- Not ideal if
- An owner who needs a ledger, invoices, and a bank feed for one company, or an in-house controller whose close already runs in FloQast or Numeric.
- Standout
- Alerts are tied to live ledger objects (bank transactions, invoices, journals, contacts) and show up on the firm's workflow, not in a separate spreadsheet checklist.
About XBert
XBert watches client accounting files and turns problems into work. You connect Xero, QuickBooks, MYOB, or FreeAgent. The data-quality page says it runs over 150 automated checks across those systems, with no setup required, and syncs multiple times a day. The Xero page lists what it reads: journals, users, profit and loss, invoices, bank transactions, bank statements, accounts, organisations, credit notes, bank transfers, payments, payroll when it applies, and contacts. QuickBooks lists the same set. MYOB lists the same set except payroll. Alerts land on a workboard. The site says you fix them in the ledger or with Auto-Resolve, and the alert clears on a later sync. You still reconcile and lock the period in Xero, QuickBooks, or MYOB.
QuickBooks Online and Xero are the ledgers. XBert does not replace them. FloQast and Numeric are close checklists for an in-house accounting team on an ERP. DataSnipper stays in Excel and ties a figure back to a source document for audit. Fathom builds the management pack after the file is clean. XBert is the practice layer in front of that: exception checks on live client data, workflow around those exceptions, and practice reports. The homepage also describes client portals, custom alerts from a prompt, and receipt capture marked as beta.
Firm owners stay when the cost of a missed bank account, a bad tax code, or a duplicate invoice shows up at lodgement or at year end. The product is aimed at bookkeepers and accountants who review many files, not at an owner coding one company. They stay if the alert list matches the checks they already do by hand. A tool that flags the wrong things just adds a second inbox.
Pricing
On 12 Oct 2026 there was no product price list. The menu item labeled Pricing goes to /value-based-pricing, which is about how a firm quotes its own clients. /pricing returned not found. A free-trial button goes to app.xbert.io/account/sign-up, and the pages opened do not say how many days the trial lasts or what it costs after. A 5-client or 50-client firm cannot total a bill from the site.
Subscription
The site offers a free trial from the sign-up button. The Pricing link in the menu opens a page about how firms price their own services, not an XBert price list. www.xbert.io/pricing returned not found.

You still reconcile the bank feed and lock the period in Xero, QuickBooks Online, or MYOB. XBert is the exception list: bank transactions, statements, tax codes, and similar issues land as alerts before you call the file clean.
You can show a data health report and a cleared alert list, and you can collect documents in the client portal. XBert does not produce the tax return. 1099 filing was not documented. The books the CPA needs are still in the ledger.
Features
- Run checks across every client file
- The data-quality page says XBert runs over 150 automated checks, every client, every day, across Xero, QuickBooks, MYOB, and FreeAgent, and that no setup is required. It also describes a data health score you can show a client. The checks read the live file. They do not replace bank-feed matching inside the ledger.
- Sync Xero, QuickBooks, or MYOB
- Xero and QuickBooks pages say you sign in with that ledger and connect on first login, and that files sync multiple times a day. Both list journals, invoices, bank transactions, bank statements, accounts, contacts, and payroll when it applies. The QuickBooks page describes the audience as QBO-based practices. MYOB lists the same objects except payroll, and the page says it is built for Australian firms.
- Clear an alert in the ledger or in XBert
- The Xero, QuickBooks, and MYOB pages say an alert can be fixed in the accounting file or with Auto-Resolve. After the next sync the alert clears and can be filed. The pages say XBert stores only the data needed for notifications, in an encrypted database. Which Auto-Resolve actions write back was not listed.
- Put alerts on the firm's workflow
- The homepage describes workflow boards tied to client ledger data, templates, capacity and time tracking, and 26+ firm-wide reports (volume, capacity versus hours, and client comparison). Xero Practice Manager is a named sync: daily work and time can stay in XBert and sync to XPM jobs. That is practice work, not a second set of books.
- Ask clients and capture receipts
- The site describes a client portal for documents and questions, custom alerts written as a prompt, and a shared prompt library. Receipt capture and the Capture app are marked beta on the data-quality and navigation pages. App Store and Play Store listings were not confirmed.

Pick something else instead of XBert
Xero
Pick Xero instead if you still need the ledger, invoices, and bank feed. XBert only watches a Xero file. It does not keep the books.
QuickBooks Online
Pick QuickBooks Online instead if the company needs a US ledger. XBert monitors a QuickBooks file for a practice. It does not replace it.
FloQast
Pick FloQast instead if you are an in-house accounting team running a close checklist on an ERP, not a firm reviewing many client files.
